My Letter to a Woman with Trump Derangement Syndrome
I used to share her fear of Trump and his supporters, and this is how I changed
I'm genuinely sorry you are in so much pain. Truly. Because I felt that same pain from 2016 to 2021.
What changed for me?
It started when AOC and other members of the "Squad" (whom I used to adore) came out against the Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act, which holds websites accountable for profiting from the sale of raped women and children on their platform. No one who claims to care about women and children could possibly oppose FOSTA, yet they did and do. Crack in the facade #1.
#2: I discovered that black people were no more likely to be shot by police than white people (check out the research of black Harvard professor Roland Fryer). I'd been under the impression that white supremacists had infiltrated police departments all over the country and were hunting down black men. I was wrong. That was just a conspiracy theory I foolishly believed. I came to learn most poor and working class black people want MORE police on their streets, not fewer.
#3: After marching for and donating to BLM, I found out they didn't want to reform prisons and police, but wanted to abolish BOTH. This would further decimate already decimated black neighborhoods terrorized by crime. I also discovered they were using the money I donated to buy themselves mansions and god knows what else.
#4: So called "progressives" came out against imprisoning men convicted of rape and "domestic" violence; women like myself, who want to prosecute and imprison sex offenders and batterers, were accused of being “white supremacist” "carceral feminists". Call me “racist” and “carceral” all you want, but I think sex offenders and batterers should be UNDER the prison. Permanently. Regardless of race or gender.
#5: When Roe was overturned, I saw upper middle class "feminists" oblivious to the fact that poor women have not been able to afford abortions in Texas for decades ($700 for an abortion is an impossible amount for poor women). I know at least two women in Texas who obtained abortion drugs from Mexico and aborted at home, prior to the Dobbs decision. I’m sure there have been many more since. It's only when abortion became more expensive for middle class women in Red states that so called "feminists" cared. Too little, too late.
#6: I found out that the maternal mortality rate among Hispanic women in the USA is lower than the white maternal mortality rate, and that the lowest maternal mortality rate is among Asian women. Black women are not suffering high maternal mortality rates due to racism, unless doctors love Asians and Latinas, but hate both white and black women. Something else is going on, and black mothers will continue to die until we find out what that is. But do "progressives" actually care?
#7: Many of the same "progressive" organizations I donated to cheered on the atrocities of 10/7. I used to drive around with an "I heart Muslims" bumper sticker on my car in solidarity with my Muslim neighbors, but I have not seen my Muslim neighbors showing any solidarity with Jewish people during their time of need. Never Again. Am Yisrael Chai.
#8: I discovered that incarcerated women were being raped by men with whom they were forced to share a prison cell and communal shower. Why? Because these men were claiming to "identify" as women despite having an intact male anatomy. If forcing the most vulnerable women in society to share a prison cell with violent males isn't toxic masculinity, what is?
#9: I saw Lia Thomas tower over actual women standing on an awards podium, and later learned that these young women were forced to undress in front of this large, fully intact male, who would then go on to steal their trophies. Any young woman who complained was threatened with being kicked off the team and demonized. Toxic Masculinity?
#10: I believed the legacy press when they told me the Hunter Biden laptop story was a Russian hoax; I also believed them when they said the Covid lab leak theory was racist. I have since cancelled my subscriptions to the Washington Post and the New York Times. Never Again.
#11: I believed people who opposed open borders were racist; I have since seen the chaos and human suffering caused by Open Borders, thanks to the Biden Administration reversing all of Trump's Executive Orders on the enforcement of border control.
#12: I saw the professional class dismiss the concerns of working class people over the rising cost of food and gasoline. Not okay.
#13: I saw the party claiming to want to "save democracy" try to have the GOP presidential candidate removed from the ballot in their states. That alone would have persuaded me to vote for Trump as a middle finger to those who directly try to undermine our right to choose which candidate to vote for.
#14: I saw Trump prosecuted for crimes he committed years and even decades prior to running for political office, and I couldn't help but be suspicious that these were politically motivated prosecutions, which is never acceptable in a democracy.
#15: I saw Biden in a debate with Trump during which it was horrifically clear we had been brazenly lied to about Biden's cognitive decline ( prior to the debate, the legacy press assured us that Biden’s alleged cognitive decline was a Right Wing Conspiracy Theory). Following that debate, I couldn't help but see that the person/people running the country was NOT the person I'd voted for.
This is just a short list of what moved me from Trump Derangement Syndrome to Democrat Derangement Syndrome. My hope is to escape from Derangement Syndrome altogether by focusing on my personal life and what I can control, instead of allowing myself to become deranged about what I can’t control.
Again, I am genuinely sorry for the pain and fear you are experiencing, because I used to feel it too.
But consider the possibility that you are suffering from a set of beliefs that are simply not true.
Take Care.
Thank you for this list! My sister asked me why I voted for Trump and I didn’t even know where to start because the list is sooooo long…this is a big help. I’d add to it:
Biden et al abandoning our people and equipment in Afghanistan and precipitating the Russian invasion of Ukraine by that show of incompetence and weakness.
Vaccine mandates and the lack of evidence supporting their necessity, with the CDC lying about their preventing the spread.
Biden Admin pressuring social media to remove or suppress content it didn’t like and attempting to set up a federal department to suppress free speech.
Prosecuting whistleblower at Houston Methodist Hospital for reporting that the hospital was continuing to perform gender mutilation surgery on minors.
Unconstitutionally prosecuting and imprisoning ProLife activists for praying next to abortion clinics.
I could go on and on.
This is even less about Trump and more about how the democrats/progressives have gaslit the American public and somehow we are supposed to just accept it because....the fact is it didn't need to be Trump. Any republican would have won the election. But this speaks truth to power that if the democrats dont get their house in order they will simply keep losing elections.
